Moytura
1-2 Players | Ages 12+ | 45 Minutes
The epic battle of Moytura has commenced. As a leader of the Tuatha Dé Danann, your goal is to spread your influence across the land and achieve the title of High Ruler of Ireland. Invoke the powerful deities of the Tuatha Dé Danann, who command water, travel, war, and creation, to aid you in your quest. However, the path to legend is fraught with challenges, as sinister Fomorians and other mythical beings crave battle, not to mention a rival clan with their own ambitions. Prepare yourself for a legendary struggle, rewrite the myths of Ireland, and claim your rightful place as the true High King!
In Moytura, you and your opponent control competing factions of the Tuatha Dé Danann, vying for dominance over ancient Ireland. A third opponent faction, consisting of three enemy clans, also competes for control and accrues points. Points are earned by having the most influence across Ireland at the end of each era. Within each of the eleven regions, the faction with the most or second most units will score points based on the region’s indicated value. After two eras, the faction with the highest score wins.
During each round, players and the enemy faction take turns executing their actions. On their turn, a player selects a deity tile (potentially spending worship tokens to acquire it) and performs that deity’s unique actions. After use, the deity tile resets to the most expensive position on the track. These deity tiles allow players to expand their influence and engage in battles while utilizing the deity’s abilities. On the enemy faction’s turn, an activation card from the deck determines which of the three clans expands. Some activation cards are more potent than others, requiring players to carefully monitor which clans may attack and their target areas. Only those who outsmart their opponents while managing the enemy faction will secure victory.
Moytura offers seven different map setups for various clan combinations. Additionally, three special enemy clans can replace 1-3 of the standard Fomorian clans, providing more challenging foes with asymmetric abilities: the Ellén Trechends (three-headed beasts) expand in all directions, the Oilliphéist (sea serpents) rapidly advance along the coast, and the Banshees invade specific regions instead of dispersing from their largest group.
For those who prefer solo or cooperative gameplay, Moytura includes an optional variant that accommodates these styles. The intuitive enemy faction system integrated into the main game makes it easy to adapt for solo or cooperative play!
